Lyrical Theology Thursday: Stephen the Levite – “RnA (Reject and Accept)”
Posted on 15. Jul, 2010 by William Jacobson in Music, Theology
Nowadays it seems as though people, especially the American church, has grown soft. It seems as though we have lost all intelligence. No one cares to enter into substantial; meaningful conversation. With this comes the attitude that if you disagree with anything than you are troublesome and/or full of yourself. Since when does being mature or loving mean that you must agree with everything? Or that you can’t disagree with anything to the point to where you will take a stand? The funny thing is that God has instructed us in the Scriptures to be critical and to test things. 1 John 4:1 tells us to “test the spirits”. And as much as some of you may want that to mean alcohol, it simply does not. Why do we test the spirits? Because as John tells us, many false prophets are out there. So we must be on guard to what is true and what is false. Just look at the Bareans in Acts 17:11. These Jews were considered more noble because they tested everything the apostle Paul told them by the scriptures. They examined the word to see if what he preached was true. Now if the Bareans were considered noble for testing Paul, who wrote almost 3/4 of the New Testament, how much more should we be testing preachers now? We have a responsibility to our Lord to make sure we worship Him in spirit and in truth. Let’s be on guard to make sure we are doing this!
This track is off of Stephen the Levite’s solo LP “To Die is Gain”, and it’s called “RnA”. Stephen is a favorite of mine, as he has this great ability to handle very heavy subject matter while just being sick wit it on the mic. I love this dude. Check it!
(Reject!) Anything that I spit you that isn’t biblical/ but don’t assume it isn’t because it convicts or gets to you/
(Accept!) Your responsibility to search the scriptures dude/ it’s written in epistles: the Christian is to be critical/
(Reject!) The misconception that says that you shouldn’t judge/ the hypocritical misinterpretation of Matthew 7:1/
(Accept!) Correction comin’ from older brothers and sisters/ consider it with humility please don’t get all defensive kid/
(Reject!) the relativistic philosophy that you can find at “chu’ch”/ that says “well, what I got from that was…”/
(Accept!) the fact that what the preacher said is what he said/ whether wrong or right or whatever/ don’t try to get all up in his head/
(Reject!) the authority of a popular cliché/ if it isn’t plain in the text then prob’ly doesn’t hold any weight/
(Accept!) the fallibility of any kat that’s preachin’ or rappin’ that isn’t Jesus/ or canonized with His teachin’ please/
(Reject!) the tradition of applaudin’ for all performers/ regardless of what he taught us or how doctrinally off it is/
(Accept!) that you might actually be a whack emcee or a Christian/ too young to be spittin’ gifted but lackin’ in wisdom/
(Reject!) any promotion prior to proper preparation/ in light of the fact your facin’ a greater condemnation/
(Accept!) Cats who communicate the gospel completely/ a Savior still in the grave is confusing news it would seem to me/
(Reject!) the ideology that truth should be followed by an apology/ that doesn’t make any sense to me logically/
(Accept!) the persecution with happiness and humility/ praising God that your able to partake in His identity/
(Reject!) the seeker-friendly mentality and delivery/ pickin’ apart the gospel and removing the offensive piece/
(Accept!) the fact that the Father draws ‘em and not your methods/ but methods can turn ‘em off and be flawed and cause a rejection so/
(Reject!) the ways of men when engagin’ a slave to sin/ for the sake of relatin’ the gospel is forsakin’ or way too thin/
(Accept!) the great commission as more than evangelism/ the multiplication of Christians bent for missional livin’ and/
(Reject!) the hypocrisy that says that a woman shouldn’t wear pants but/ the church is full of women “wearing the pants” bruh/
(Accept!) that Jesus though He was equal was still submissive/ and such is the role of a Christian but specifically women and/
(Reject!) the femininity of men whether they’re homosexual or not/ the stumblin’ block has gotta be stopped/ my friend
(Accept!) the roles and responsibilities of a godly man/ and stop the trend of spiritual fatherless-ness we got us in/
(Reject!) the rebellion of the youth and the stubbornness of the older/ we’ve gotta learn from each other to reach the culture/
(Accept!) this as the end but if needed there’ll be a sequel/ so read and obey your word to discern between good and evil//

I see I’m a tad late on the topic. Did a quick search on Stephen the Levite tonight, and this was one of the hits that came up.
Stephen the Levite is by far the sickest on the mic. Not too mention the content this brother brings. He touches on the topics that have seemingly left the church for a watered down, doctrine/word. Although the brother’s album is full of meat, RnA is one of my fav’s. Why the song and his album brought so much controversy, blows my mind. It was certainly needed. I wish the brother could drop once a year. I’d never get tired of that.
I agree with the whole Barean’s mentality. As I’ve been instructed, and as I teach, I implore/encourage the people to have that very mentality. It’s so critical. How else would we be able to give a defense (1 Peter 3:15)?
You bring up a great point. A point that I reference quite often, and that is, if Paul being the beast that he was, yet the Bareans didn’t take what he said for gospel until they researched it for themselves, why would/should we take today’s preacher/teacher’s word for gospel? The key is, they went to search the scriptures for themselves. Not rely on the word of the preacher, but checked his word against the Word. Exactly where we should be today, and thats not relying on the word of today’s preacher/teacher, but on the very word of God.
What a perfect model of what we should be. Always on top of our game(s), testing the spirits and all things(1 John 4:1; 1 Thess 5:21), Being Bareans (Acts 17:11), and Studying to show ourselves approved (1 Tim 3:15), ultimately learning from Him (Matt 11:29).
I could go on for days bruh. Glad to see that there are more believers out here that appreciate a Heavy Cat like the Levite. If you can get with this cat, it shows you have a deep appreciation for the word.
