Idolatry

“To whom will you liken me and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be alike? Those who lavish gold from the purse, and weigh out silver in the scales, hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god;then they fall down and worship! They lift it to their shoulders, they carry it, they set it in its place, and it stands there; it cannot move from its place. If one cries to it, it does not answer or save him from his trouble.”Isaiah 46:5-7
I realize I have many idols in my life. I bow down to them everyday. I go to them for my pleasure. Well, because that seems like the obvious solution to my problems. But God shows us in scripture how wrong and stupid we really are. We are just so prone to wander and cling onto idols. I see the Lord pleading with Israel in these versus to a certain extent. He is pleading with them to know and understand that their idols can not and will not save them. They will not give ultimate pleasure. He wants them to see that these idols they are worshiping are made from things that God created. LOL. I mean seriously. God is like,“Ay yo dummys, the one who created those things you are worshiping is living and can be worshiped instead. Don’t you think it makes more sense to worship me instead of them.?! I mean, if these created things (a girl, guy, job, money ect…) give you great pleasure, can you even IMAGINE what pleasures lye with the one who created them? He is the source. Human beings are such idiots that we don’t even see it or believe it.
John Calvin once said that the human heart is an idol factory. Sheesh, how right he is. Every single person on the face of this earth worships. So the issue isn’t whether we will worship, but the issue is WHAT will we worship.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I know that the idols I have made in my life don’t satisfy long term. It sucks so much. They are my masters. This past sunday,JR Vasser was talking about the things we love. And he made an awesome point. He said “What you love will enslave you. The question is, who will be the better master.” I can love my specific sins or I can love God. The question is, who will be the better master? Jesus is the better master by far. Oh that I would be a bond servant of my Lord. And not just one who says it or writes it, but actually lives it. He (Jesus) is the ultimate source of pleasure and satisfaction in this entire universe. Because He is THE highest being in the entire universe. Any other pleasure is like playing with poop in comparison to Him.
God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him.
